Sending a Game Changing Text After a First Date

We live in a complex yet full of possibilities world thanks to technology. Nowadays, in a world of “ghosting”, “benching”, Tinder, Facebook, Telegram, and the like we are allowed to connect with people we wouldn’t have met otherwise. And also, on a darker side, we are more likely to have a “situationship” or a relationship with our phone that doesn’t give us a lot in our real life.

Because, let’s be honest, most of us have had one of those over the phone relationships. You text, you are supposed to have a “thing” together, but then there comes the silence, or very fluent conversation that never leads to a date, and before you realize it, you are clearing your planner to be perpetually available for somebody who never has time for you. Sounds familiar? Keep reading!

For all this, I’m going to give you a few samples of texts that can change the game for you! Ready? Go!

After a first date, there’s always that awkwardness. To text or not to text? When is it right to say something? Should you leave the ball in his or her court? Will you look desperate?

If you have ever wondered this, here’s a sample of a perfect text you can send after a date:

“Hey X! I really enjoyed meeting you last night! I’ve heard of a restaurant I’ve been dying do try. Are you up for dinner next Saturday?”

What makes it great: It’s a text that says a lot in just a line! First, you show your interest in a very nice way. You show your initiative by proposing a plan. You set a date for it, leaving no room for a “we’ll see” answer.

What it says of you: This text says that you’re not scared of going for what you want, that you don’t beat around the bush. Also it says that you like to schedule, you’re not going to be perpetually available and you like clear, yes / no answers.

Key content of the text:

  1. Show your interest.
  2. Offer a plan.
  3. Set a date.

Bonus: With this text, no answer or a “we’ll see” answer becomes pretty much an answer. If they are hesitant, let it go from here.

What you don’t want to do:

  1. Send an unsubstantial text that can be left unanswered. For instance, try to avoid the classic “Hey, how are you?” It doesn’t add much to the conversation and it is not very engaging.
  2. Send a “We should repeat this!” text. People sometimes can be really polite and say “Sure!” with no intention whatsoever of doing so. With a text that requires an answer, you’re making clear that you don’t want to be left hanging.
  3. Be overly enthusiastic. Leave alone the “Good morning <3” texts for a while or giving very detailed explanations of what you have enjoyed. Letting them know that you had a good time is good enough to start.
