What’s it Like to be a Tarot Reader For a Living?
I get asked this question quite a lot. What is it like to be a tarot reader? Don’t you know everything that is going to happen already? Almost every time I meet someone new and I tell them what I do for a living, an interesting conversation follows. It’s the sort of thing that always makes people curious and doesn’t go unnoticed! Actually, it’s not as fascinating as it sounds and just as everything else, it becomes part of the daily routine, but there are certainly some things that make it a bit different, so let’s go through the life of a psychic!
The Reactions
One of the first things that are not exclusive to psychics but not common for every other career is, as I said before, the reactions I get when I tell someone what I do for a living. In fact, when I answer the question “What do you do for a living?” my default answer is now saying, with a very straight face: “I am a Tarot card reader. Pause for reaction.”
Some ask what is it, some say they don’t believe in that – or ask “How can you believe in that?” – others say that’s interesting and others say when can they get a reading, but nobody nods and changes the subject.
A Day At Work
Getting ready to work is perhaps other of the things that is slightly different. My day begins just as everyone else’s. I wake up, do some quick chores around the house, get breakfast and the like. What is different then? For instance, I like to start my day with a meditation in the shower. I go under the shower and I make my intent to get clean from all of the energies from the day before, clear my channels and receive clarity throughout the day.
Then I go into my office, select the decks for the day, take a few deep breaths and go around it! I take frequent pauses to make sure that I am at the top of my game, for this is not a job where forcing the machine is going to take you far. Lavender tea is a must in my breaks, for it helps me stay calm and keep my intuition sharp and ready!

The Aftermath
A day at work is usually smooth, and after being used to it, I usually continue with my day with ease. However, there are times when I feel really drained or exhausted or when I feel deeply touched by a client’s situation and then I take a while to release. Besides a career, this is a labor or love and although the best service is given from an objective place, there are times when it is unavoidable to get really touched by a client’s situation or story and a break is required in order to maintain a healthy and clear approach.
The Handbag Of A Psychic
If someone stole my purse I’m really sure that they will scream a loud “WHAT THE HELL?!” Besides a wallet, a cellphone, keys, cosmetics and cleenex, my purse usually contains a minimum of one Tarot deck – usually three, once I counted nine and I don’t know how that happened! – a Lenormand deck, a pendulum, a number of crystals, herbs, mojo bags and a set of dice!
