Affirmations Work Whether You Believe Or Not

Affirmations are certainly not a new metaphysical concept. It was first introduced into mainstream by Louise Hays and before that in the writings of Florence Scovel-Shinn, an artist, actress, and metaphysical writer who published her work on success and affirmations in 1925.

Anyone who has used them with belief and persistence know the power of changing how the mind thinks through the Law of Attraction. Those who don’t believe and do it anyway, they still work.

Those who quit and do not persist in forcing your mind to change from negative thoughts to positive ones will tell you in a minute, they do not work and never will! In that statement alone condemns you to repetitive failures and disappointments in life.

Accepting the concept that we wrote this adventurous mess we call life in another dimension before incarnation, then we must at least toy with the idea that we can change it.

Affirmations are one of the best tools we have available to us in self-power but the tricky part of it is dedication, persistence and the belief that you have that kind of power over your life.

62 Times

When I was absorbed in Spiritual 101 workshops, classes and self-help books, it was pointed out that the mind in nothing but a big computer and does exactly what you tell it to think.

If you can accept that your negative thoughts and beliefs is a bad software program in your mind’s computer that needs to be replaced with a better one, it becomes a little easier to comprehend.

The catch to changing those deeply imbedded negative beliefs and thought processes is it takes your subconscious 62 times of hearing a new thought program before it even hears it, another 62 times before it pays attention, another 62 times before it listens and then another 62 times before it will even accept the new idea and start releasing the old.

If you count them up, it takes your subconscious to let go of a negative belief 248 times of hearing the new.

That is usually why so many people give up on affirmations with the little index cards stuck on the mirror, morning chanting or evening prayers. If we don’t see any results quickly, we stop.

This is one of the reasons I always recommend so highly affirmation tracks to listen to in the car or at bedtime. Sleep hypnosis tapes are good but just straight out positive affirmation tracks are better. There are tons of them out there.

Remove negative words

Whether you believe the concept or not is irrelevant because affirmations actually work even if you do them with the attitude of “oh all right I’ll give this stupid affirmation thing a try and see if it actually works.”

If you stick with them, the proof is in a better attitude, more positive outlook and the receiving of what you are working towards. It may not come when or in the way you expect it to but it will arrive, so be very meticulous about how you word your affirmations and what you ask for.

The first step is to remove all negative words out of your vocabulary such as I can’t, I don’t, I never or I am not and replace them with positive words of how you would like yourself and your life to be.

If our minds accept as truth the critical statements we tell ourselves, it can also accept our positive affirmations. Once they enter our realm of consciousness, they also enter our subconscious mind where they have the power to change our lives.

The affirmations you create should be specific, not too long, worded positively, formed in complete sentences and spoken in the present tense as if what you are affirming is already true.

For example: if you want romantic love in your life, tell yourself daily that he is out there looking for you also and you are really happy you have found each other.

Soon, your reality will begin to reflect your affirmations. If you find that you are thwarting yourself with negative thinking, try more repetitions of your personal affirmations or write them down and say them aloud or in your mind.

But for the basics of self-love, money and abundance etc., I suggest go with the affirmation tracks to lay the groundwork. Allow your conviction to grow stronger each time you say your personal affirmations and your negativity will be overridden by your motivation and positive thoughts.

Susan Z’s Verdict

Whether you believe affirmations work or not, the outcome is proof of effort. If you keep on doing, thinking and saying the same old negative thoughts, you will always get the negative outcome you are creating. You can’t make an edible tasting Eggs Benedict with rotten eggs, no matter how tasty it might look to eat. Put some fresh eggs in your life recipe and enjoy the better life you have created.
